Marcos J. Lopez
Marcos has worked with different artists including N’Klabe, Issac Delgado, Victor Manuelle, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Larry Harlow, Plena Libre, Wisin & Yandel, Wyclef Jean, Jerry Rivera, Kalani Trinidad, Omar Sosa and shared stages with musicians like Phillip Bailey, Juan Luis Guerra, Ruben Blades, Chucho Valdez, Victor Wooten, Paoli Mejias, Giovanni Hidalgo, Cachao, Marc Quiñones, Sheila E., Bobby Allende, Roberto Roena, Steve Windwood, Dave Valentin, Oskar Cartaya, Rosa Passos, Mario Rivera, Luis Enrique, Ralph Irrizary, Tito DeGracia, and many more.
Coming from a musical family he began playing Congas, Timbales and bongos when he was only two years old. At the age of seven, he entered the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico and at the age of twelve he entered Escuela Libre de Musica, which he graduated from in 2006. During his time at Escuela Libre de Musica, Marcos attended the “Berklee in Puerto Rico Workshops” which gave him the opportunity to perform at the Heineken Jazz Festival in Puerto Rico for five consecutive years. In 2005, he won a full scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston where he recently graduated with a degree in Music Business & Management.
Marcos has given percussion clinics and performances at The Montreal Drum Fest, Pasic and in the Percussion Festival in Puerto Rico. He has performed at many of the finest and most historical venues in the world including the Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Coliseo De Puerto Rico, Beantown Jazz Festival, Burlington Jazz Festival, and the Regatta Bar in Boston.
Marcos is also part of “La Timbistica”, a group of “Latin Jazz” musicians with influences from everywhere in the world. They have headlined the Heineken Jazz Fest in Puerto Rico, the Monterey Jazz Fest in California, DC Jazz Festival in Washington D.C., and the Saratoga Jazz Festival in NY. They were awarded Downbeat Magazine’s 2008 Jazz Group of the Year Award, in the collegiate category.
Marcos is continually working to reach new levels musically and artistically. His evolution rests on a solid foundation layered with diligence and a strong work ethic. These qualities manifest themselves in a form of professionalism rarely found in musicians his age. Always striving for growth and improvement, Marcos Lopez is on a journey destined for success.
